Exchange rates

These statistics provide a range of exchange rate-related information and data released by the ECB.

Euro foreign exchange reference rates

The reference rates are usually updated at around 16:00 CET every working day, except on TARGET closing days.

They are fixed following a daily concertation procedure between central banks across Europe, which generally takes place at around 14:10 CET. The reference rates are published for information purposes only. Using the rates for transaction purposes is strongly discouraged.

Euro foreign exchange reference rates

Daily nominal effective exchange rate of the euro

The nominal effective exchange rate of the euro is a weighted average of the nominal bilateral rates between the euro and a basket of foreign currencies. It is an indicator of the external value of the euro against the currencies of selected euro area trading partners.

The harmonised competitiveness indicators provide an overview of the price and cost competitiveness of each euro area country relative to its main competitors in international markets (including other euro area countries).
