Publication of a book on ’The development of statistics for Economic and Monetary Union’
Today the European Central Bank (ECB) has published a book recording the work to develop statistics for Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
Part A of the book concerns the preparatory work in the years 1992 - 98. Part B describes the numerous enhancements made to the data in the five years 1999-2003. The book is a detailed factual account of this important area of policy-related work.
The author, Peter Bull, was involved in the work almost throughout the period. After 30 years in the Bank of England, latterly as Head of statistics, he joined the European Monetary Institute (EMI) in the same capacity in 1994. He subsequently headed the Directorate General Statistics in the ECB and chaired the Statistics Committee until his retirement in 2002.
The book can be accessed and downloaded as an e-book from the ECB's website under http://www.ecb.europa.eu [direct link: pdf 1692 kB]. Hardcopies can be obtained by writing to the ECB's Press and Information Division at the address given below.
