Joint Bank Reporting Committee (JBRC)

Paving the way for the integrated reporting of statistical, prudential and resolution data by banks

The Joint Bank Reporting Committee helps to develop common definitions and standards for the data that banks are required to report for statistical, supervisory and resolution purposes.

To lessen the volume and costs of reporting for banks and to improve data quality, it is important to reduce duplications and redundancies in regulatory reporting and to standardise descriptions of applicable reporting concepts.

I am pleased that we have a structure in place to simplify and facilitate data reporting by the banking industry in an integrated, efficient and standardised system.” - Isabel Schnabel, Executive Board member, European Central Bank

I am glad that today we are setting up this committee to ensure a smooth and sound governance underpinning an Integrated and efficient reporting process to the benefit of all stakeholders.” - José Manuel Campa, Chairperson, European Banking Authority

Tasks

Identify opportunities for semantic integration

Translate user needs into integrated reporting requirements

Foster the development of the common regulatory data dictionary

Promote data sharing and coordination

Composition and substructures

The European Central Bank, the European Banking Authority, the European Commission and the Single Resolution Board are all part of the Joint Bank Reporting Committee, as are the relevant authorities with the power to issue supervisory, resolution and statistical reporting requirements in countries in the European Economic Area.

The Joint Bank Reporting Committee collaborates with the banking industry via the Reporting Contact Group. Via this channel, representatives of the banking industry can share their insights into how to integrate bank reporting and improve efficiency.

The work of the Joint Bank Reporting Committee is coordinated by its Steering Committee, which can create expert groups where technical experts from relevant authorities, and possibly also the banking industry, go into more detail on specific topics. There is currently an Expert Group on Semantic Integration. This group gives advice on how to harmonise definitions of concepts used in reporting requirements.

The Joint Bank Reporting Committee Chairpersons for the period 2024-26 are Meri Rimmanen from the European Banking Authority and Claudia Mann from the European Central Bank.

The Reporting Contact Group Chairperson is Nils Gerstengarbe. His Deputy is Dorthy Van Saen.
