Cultural days of the European Central Bank 2005: Hungary
Hungary will be the country featured in this year’s Cultural Days of the European Central Bank, which will be held from 2 to 28 November 2005 in cooperation with Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the central bank of Hungary. The event will be organised under the patronage of Mr Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank, and Mr Zsigmond Járai, Governor of Magyar Nemzeti Bank.
The programme will bring a taste of Hungary’s rich and diverse culture to the city of Frankfurt, and will include book readings, concerts, dance performances, films, a photography exhibition, a fashion show and special events aimed at children.
Some highlights from the programme include:
- An opening concert performed by the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestraconducted by Zsolt Hamar, with Barnabás Kelemen as violin soloist, featuring works by Bartók, Dohnányi and Kodály.
- A gala performance by singers from the Budapest Operetta Theatre.
- A performance by the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company.
- A closing concert performed by the Danubia Symphony Orchestraconducted by Domonkos Héja, with Júlia Pusker as violin soloist, featuring works by Liszt, Kabalevsky and Bartók.
The aim of the ECB’s Cultural Days is to give the people of Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the cultural traditions of other countries of the European Union.
