ECB statement on Luc Coene, Member of the Supervisory Board and former Member of the Governing Council
Mario Draghi, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), issued the following statement on the news of the death of Luc Coene, Member of the Supervisory Board and former Member of the Governing Council:
“It is with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Luc Coene. Since 2003, Luc has closely worked with the ECB in various roles—as Vice-Governor and Governor of the National Bank of Belgium and as ECB Representative Member of the Supervisory Board. With gratitude we will remember his dedication and engagement in these roles and his wider contributions to the central banking and banking supervision community. On behalf of the members of the Governing Council and the Supervisory Board and the staff of the ECB, I want to express our deep condolences to his family and friends.”
Danièle Nouy, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the ECB, added: “Luc was a dedicated and valued member of the Supervisory Board. We will miss his thoughtful contributions and prudent analysis.”
