€ Conference Slovenia 2007
On 1 January 2007, the euro banknotes and coins were introduced in Slovenia. The "€ Conference Slovenia 2007" was organised by Banka Slovenije in cooperation with the European Central Bank on 15 January 2007 in Ljubjana, Slovenia.
Slovenia was the first of the ten new Member States which joined the EU in 2004 to introduce the euro. The follwing questions were addressed at the conference.
- What are the advantages of the euro for Slovenia?
- What are the learnings of the 2002 cash changeover for the 'Big Bang' introduction in Slovenia?
- Who are the players in this extensive financial and logistical operation?
- What will the enlarged EMU look like and what is the role of the European Central Bank and Banka Slovenije?
The aim of the conference was to provide information and enhance dialogue about these questions and many others.
The invited speakers included Mr. Mitja Gaspari, Governor of Banka Slovenije, Mr. Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank, Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the Eurogroup, Prime Minister of Luxembourg and Mr. Joaquín Almunia, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, European Commission.
