Decoration for Dr. Willem F. Duisenberg, President of the European Central Bank

Dr. Willem F. Duisenberg, President of the European Central Bank, has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Henry the Navigator by His Excellency Jorge Sampaio, President of the Portuguese Republic.

The award is in recognition of Mr. Duisenberg's significant contribution to Economic and Monetary Union and to the creation and implementation of the euro.

The President of the Portuguese Republic presented the award to Mr. Duisenberg at a ceremony in Lisbon today.
