Changes in security profile
Besides visualising the series, the EBI makes it possible to save the searches for further use, save the results of a search, export the series into the desired format for use in other applications and print information about the searches, the results or the series obtained.
To have these functionalities available the Java security policy file must be modified. This way the applet will receive permission to load and save files to your local drives. You will be able to choose the drive where you want to save, but the directory will always be 'EBI'. If the directory does not exist in the chosen drive it will be created automatically. You need to manually make these changes:
- Open the EBI policy file (opens a separate window)
- Locate a file named java.policy in your system (a search within the directory where your Java software is installed should do the trick).
- Open the file (any ordinary text editor can be used) and move to the end (the line below the last semicolon ";").
- Paste the contents of the EBI policy file.
- Save and close the file.
Within the application you will easily notice when the change has been successfully made. A bar at the bottom of the EBI's windows reading "Java Applet Window" will be present before modifying the mentioned file. Once this is modified, the bar will be removed and all the functionalities of the EBI will be available from your computer.
