Announcement of a consultation: glossary of terms related to payment, clearing and settlement systems
The European Central Bank (ECB) is today publishing, for public consultation, a glossary of terms relating to the technical aspects of payment, clearing and settlement systems in the EU. It was compiled by a committee of experts within the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). The terms are defined in a user-friendly and non-legalistic style in order to promote their acceptance.
The glossary is intended to be used to ensure a consistent use of terms in all of the ESCB’s publications that relate to payments, clearing and settlement. It would also be available to other institutions of the European Community for reference, if deemed necessary.
With a view to promoting greater acceptance and usage of these terms, market participants are invited to comment on the glossary by 1 January 2009 at the latest. It is intended thereafter to publish the final version of the glossary on the ECB’s website.
Comments received will also be published on the ECB’s website, unless it is clearly indicated that the author does not consent to such publication. Comments should be submitted to the ECB in English, or in the relevant official EU language, at the following address:
