Digital euro
The Eurosystem is preparing for the potential issuance of a digital euro to complement physical cash.
We have selected 36 payment service providers (PSPs) from across the euro area for the digital euro pilot. Starting in the second half of 2027, the 12-month exercise to test the digital euro’s features and user experience will take place at the ECB and 19 national central banks.
