The data in this section are compiled according to the requirements of ECB Guideline ECB/2011/23 on the statistical reporting requirements of the European Central Bank in the field of external statistics, and broadly in line with the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund’s updated guidelines for a data template on international reserves and foreign currency liquidity (2013).
Changes in the volume of the Eurosystem’s gold holdings are due to transactions in gold within the terms of the Central Bank Gold Agreement signed on 26 September 1999 and its successive extensions.
More general references as well as a description of the data required by the ECB to compile the Eurosystem’s international reserves position can be found in the ECB publication entitled “European Union balance of payments/international investment position statistical methods”.
