PRESS RELEASE

Publication of "Measurement issues in European Consumer Price Indices and the conceptual framework of the HICP"

22 July 2002

In November 2001 the European Central Bank (ECB) hosted a workshop jointly organised with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) on issues in the measurement of price indices. The main objective of the event was to provide a forum for central bankers, statisticians and academics to discuss measurement issues affecting price statistics, particularly in relation to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

The ECB and the CEPR will today publish the summary and conclusions of the workshop in a document entitled "Measurement issues in European Consumer Price Indices and the conceptual framework of the HICP". The publication highlights the main conclusions drawn from the debate held as part of the November 2001 workshop.

The summary and conclusions, together with the papers presented at the workshop, are available from the "Calendars and events" section of the ECB's website (http://www.ecb.europa.eu). Hard copies can also be obtained by writing to the ECB's Press and Information Division at the address given below.
