Call for expressions of interest: contribute to the BIRD project

We are looking for companies (e.g. software vendors and consultancy companies) that are interested in the BIRD project and wish to contribute to its development on a voluntary basis.

What is BIRD?

The BIRD project (Banks’ Integrated Reporting Dictionary) is an initiative to foster cooperation in the field of regulatory reporting and to alleviate the reporting burden for banks by describing how to derive and generate multiple reporting requirements (e.g. FINREP, AnaCredit) from a redundancy-free layer. The integrated reporting data dictionary is freely available as a public good. The data dictionary, BIRD data model and further BIRD deliverables are made available via the BIRD database and via additional technical documentation.

What is the BIRD project currently working on?

At the moment the BIRD project consists of the work stream on data modelling (WS DM) and work stream on testing (WS T), both of which aim to improve aspects of the BIRD database. Further business content related to reporting requirements will be added thanks to the activities of temporary subgroups to enrich the BIRD database.

In this context commercial banks, national central banks, software vendors and consultancy companies work in close collaboration and on a voluntary basis:

  • to develop a stable, harmonised and extensible data model for the BIRD using the best modelling practices;
  • to test the capabilities of the BIRD by developing and running prototypes based on the most up-to-date BIRD data model and transformations.
  • What are we looking for?

    Software vendors and consultancy companies are invited to express their interest to:

    • contribute via dedicated workshops or seminars to fostering knowledge-sharing on topics relevant to the BIRD;
    • support the testing activities of the BIRD transformations.

    How can you express your interest?

    Contact the ECB BIRD team with a short overview of your fields of expertise and the main reasons for your interest at by 22 April 2021.

    The BIRD team will get in touch with you to organise bilateral or joint meetings to discuss possible collaboration strategies.
