Sixth Annual Workshop

29-30 September 2022

Bank of Greece, Athens

The Bank of Greece and Danmarks Nationalbank are organizing the sixth annual Workshop of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) Research Cluster 2, to be held physically and hosted by the Bank of Greece in Athens, on 29-30 September 2022.

Research Cluster 2 seeks to foster awareness and collaboration, across ESCB institutions, of research initiatives related to international macroeconomics, fiscal policy, labour economics, competitiveness, and EMU governance. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Elias Papaioannou (London Business School) and Frank Smets (European Central Bank).

Relevant topics include, but are not restricted to:

  • Drivers and effects of high inflation
  • The economics of sanctions
  • Micro and macro productivity dynamics and determinants
  • International macro implications in the post-COVID era, in particular related to the legacy of high debt, threats to dollar dominance, and the challenges and opportunities of CBDCs
  • The interactions between monetary, fiscal and financial stability policies in a monetary union
  • Research related to the EMU, including on competitiveness, governance, reforms and challenges to EMU deepening
  • Persistent labor market effects of COVID-19, the fast recovery, and the role of policy
