Conference on "Assessing the macroeconomic implications of financial and production networks"

Date: 12-13 September 2014, Izmir, Turkey

Venue: Izmir, Turkey

About the conference

Globalisation and financial integration imply both opportunities and risks: more risk sharing, but also greater interconnectedness and contagion. Developing a better understanding of financial and production networks (among firms, institutions and countries) is a necessary first step towards devising policy interventions aimed at making them stronger and less vulnerable to adverse shocks. Recent advances in the specialist literature have provided a robust conceptual framework for the study of the economic underpinning and impacts of networks.

The conference, co-organised by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and the European Central Bank, is aimed at taking stock of the advancement in the theoretical literature as well as reviewing empirical applications which are relevant for policy-makers.
The organising committee, consisting of Yusuf Soner Başkaya (Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey), Filippo di Mauro (European Central Bank), Livio Stracca (European Central Bank) and Kamil Yılmaz (Koç University), would be grateful for contributions on the following topics specifically:

  • measuring interlinkage between firms, banks and financial institutions
  • macroeconomic implications of banking and financial networks
  • macroeconomic implications of international production networks
