Marco Buti

Biography

Marco Buti is Director General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission. He has held this post since December 2008.

He was educated at Università degli Studi di Firenze and the University of Oxford and joined the European Commission in 1987. Since then, he has held various positions, including that of economic advisor to the President of the European Commission.

Mr Buti is the European Commission’s Finance Deputy in the G7 and G20. He has been a visiting professor at Université Libre de Bruxelles, Università degli Studi di Firenzeand the European University Institute. He has published extensively on Economic and Monetary Union, macroeconomic policy, structural reform, the welfare state and unemployment.
