Notes: Euro area data cover the EU Member States that had adopted the euro at the time to which the statistics relate. Calculations by the Deutsche Bundesbank based on source data of the Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin) and of pension funds. Luxembourg data are based mainly on accounting data published by insurance supervisory authorities. They differ from those accounting data primarily for the following reasons: i) they exclude data on branches established abroad; ii) they include data on branches in Luxembourg of insurance corporations established in accordance with the law of another Member State of the EU; and iii) they include data on entities that are not under the supervision of insurance supervisory authorities.
