This section contains time series relating to cross-border positions of MFIs residing in the euro area vis-à-vis MFIs and non-MFIs residing:

within the euro area, i.e. between the euro area countries,
within non-participating EU Member States, and
outside the EU.

Background

The series refer to the MFI sector other than the Eurosystem (the "banking system"). The instruments covered are deposits, loans, holdings of securities other than shares, holdings of money market funds shares/units and holdings of shares and other equity.

Data refer to end-of-quarter outstanding amounts. The time series provided in this section generally start in March 1999, with the exception of some series that start in March 2003.
